Four-track extension of the Linz-Marchtrenk western line
Modernization for higher capacity and speed
The existing double-track railroad line between Linz and Marchtrenk, which dates back to the imperial era, is being extended to four high-performance tracks. The aim of this upgrade is to increase capacity and enable speeds of up to 230 km/h for long-distance trains. Speeds of up to 160 km/h are planned for regional services.
Construction work began in July 2024 and should be completed by 2030. As part of the project, the Leonding, Hörsching and Oftering stops will be modernized and made barrier-free. In addition, a new stop will be built to connect Hörsching Airport directly to the western line.
Sustainability and environmental protection
Particular emphasis is placed on noise protection. Extensive measures, such as the construction of noise barriers, will significantly reduce noise pollution for local residents. These measures will lead to a noticeable improvement compared to the current situation.
