Modernization of ÖBB freight terminals for efficient goods handling
ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG is investing extensively in the modernization of its freight terminals in order to meet the increasing demands of freight transport and to make the handling of goods more efficient. Expansions, new gantry cranes and digitalized processes will ensure faster and more environmentally friendly handling.
A key project is the expansion of the Wels terminal, which involves extending the loading tracks and creating new handling capacity. The Wolfurt terminal is also being expanded, which will increase handling capacity by 90%.
Future-proof terminals for international freight traffic
ÖBB’s freight terminals play a central role in European rail freight transport and are crucial for efficient and sustainable logistics. Targeted modernization and digital processes shorten handling times, expand capacities and optimize multimodal transport solutions.
With the extension of the loading tracks, the installation of new gantry cranes and end-to-end IT integration, the terminals will enable freight transport to be handled even more efficiently. The planned investments up to 2027 will strengthen the competitiveness of rail as an environmentally friendly alternative to road freight transport.
